Good Evening Cardinal Parents and welcome back to NES in the year 2024. We look forward to seeing all our students back at school tomorrow morning.
Report cards will be sent home electronically tomorrow evening via your child's email. Please be sure to be on the look out for them. We will also be sending home academic trouble letters. These letters indicate if your child is behind at this point in the year. It does not mean that they will be retained but that we have work to do for them to meet the NCPS promotion standards.
In order for your child to have their picture taken in 2024 they must have an updated model release form on file. You can find the form in the ROOMS app under Model Release Form. I am also attaching a link to the form that has to be completed below. This will impact what we can put in our yearbook and all other events we have at our school. If you have a middle or high schooler it has to be done for them as well. If you have any problems with completing the form you can contact the front office and we will try to help you through it. Thank you to those who have already completed the form.

Please remember to drop off car students in the car line between 7:20-7:59. Students dropped off after that should be checked in through the front office. If you park on E. Virginia St. and walk your child to the building that is fine but we cannot have parents dropping students off at the road. If your child is a car rider and you want them to have breakfast then they really need to be here before 7:50 in order to get breakfast and be in class on time. Bus riders will always have the opportunity to get breakfast as their arrival time is dependent on us.
We look forward to a great first week back at school and a wonderful second semester full of learning and growth for all.
Good Night

The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.

NC Law Senate Bill 49 / SL 2023-106 states that from 01/01/24, to include a child in photos/videos/recordings, parents/guardians must Opt-In. This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district. Find the form in Rooms, under Materials -> "Mandatory" -> "updated model release form".

Good Evening Cardinal Parents,
We have four days of school left before our break begins. Wednesday and Thursday this week will be early release days so we will dismiss at 1:00 PM on those two days so please make arrangements for dismissal times on Wednesday and Thursday.
The second nine weeks grading period ends on Thursday.
We thank all those who have helped with the canned food drive run by our ACE club. It will end on Tuesday and we will see which class wins the pizza party. In the end we know those in need within our community including our veterans will be the true winners of this event.
Congrats to Lily and Adeline our Spelling Bee winner and runner up from last week. We are proud of all our contestants and look forward to supporting our two winners in the district competition later this year.
I hope everyone is staying dry and safe through this weather today and tonight and we look forward to a great last week of 2023 and can't wait to see our students tomorrow morning.
Good night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents,
Thank you to everyone who came out last week for Zaxby's and our K-2 Christmas Concert. Both events were wonderful and your support is very much appreciated. We have two weeks left before we end this second nine weeks and go on break for the holidays.
We will have some fun events at school but will be sure to work first and keep all things focused on learning!
The ACE club is holding a canned food drive to support A Touch of the Father's Love Ministry who helps local veterans and families who are in need. Each homeroom will collect canned goods and our ACE club will make the donation before we go on break.
There will be some information coming out regarding a new model release form that all parents will have to attend to in the new year. The state has changed to an "opt in" form starting January 1st 2024. NCPS will send a digital form through ROOMS for parents to Opt in to have your child's picture taken at school. Please be on the lookout for this and we will keep you informed about it as we move forward.
Lastly please continue to get your child to school on time and follow our morning and afternoon procedures so we can ensure the safety of all our students, staff and families during those busy arrival and dismissal times. We look forward to a great week.
Good Night.

DONATIONS for Fifth Grade Field Trip to Fort Caswell
Fifth grade has planned a field trip to Fort Caswell to see the ocean, learn about NC history, and explore sea life in various ways. This is an amazing learning experience for each student, but because of the distance, we have to use charter buses for the trip. Charter buses are expensive, but we feel that this is a worthwhile expense for the opportunity of such a unique experience for the fifth grade students. Please help send fifth grade on this trip by donating any amount that you choose. Every penny gets us closer to our $11,000 goal. Thank you so much for your generosity and support. Please go to schoolcashonline.com to donate, or scan the QR code.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents,
We hope everyone has enjoyed their time away from school and that all our students are refreshed and ready to get back to work at school tomorrow. We have a little over three weeks before our next big holiday break.
December 21st is the last day of the second grading period so it is important that our students are working diligently to get their grades to a level that accurately represent what they know and can do. If you are unsure of how your child is currently performing then please be sure to look at their progress report which was sent home on Thursday November 16th, check the parent portal or contact your child's teacher.
Please help us welcome Deputy Hernandez from the Nash County Sherriff's Department. She is our assigned School Resource Officer and we are glad she is with us to help support our school.
Please follow our morning car line routine and drop off early enough for your child to get breakfast and still get to class by 8:00AM. We are working to reduce our number of tardies and improve our attendance rates as much as possible. Thank you for all who are able to get their children here between 7:20-7:55 which ensures they get to class on time.
We will have our next PTA meeting and our K-2 Christmas concert on Thursday December 7th at 6:15 in our gym. We hope you will join us for this wonderful event.
We look forward to seeing our students tomorrow and for a great week ahead.
Good night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents,
We have two days of school this week and then will be off for Thanksgiving Break. We will return to school on Monday November 27th.
Please remember that school starts at 8:00AM so we need our students to arrive at school early enough to get to class and be ready by 8:00. If your child is going to eat school breakfast it is important to get them here early enough to get their breakfast and then get to class.
Progress reports went home last week for the second nine weeks so please be sure to monitor your child's progress.
Our 3rd-5th graders did a great job last week taking the NC Checkins assessments in reading math and science. Our teachers will be able to use that information to help us reteach any areas that were specifically difficult for our students.
As the weather has changed we have accumulated many jackets and hoodies. Please put your child's name on the tag of these items so we can return any that are found on campus.
We look forward to two great days at school this week and wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family and friends.
Good night
