Good Evening Cardinal Parents, Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will take their NC Check in assessments for math, reading and science this week starting tomorrow. These tests are closely aligned with the EOG tests they will take at the end of the year. Our teachers will get valuable information from the tests to help them know where students are doing well and where they need extra support. Congratulations to Lily and Adeline who represented our school in an amazing way in this year's district spelling bee. They both finished in the top ten and Adeline came in second place overall. Both girls performed brilliantly in such a high pressure event. We are all very proud of them. Our 5th graders are leading a fundraiser for discount cards for local businesses. We hope you will support them in selling them within our community. Our next PTA meeting is Thursday February 22nd. We will have our boys and girls basketball teams play against parents and staff for a fun family event. Our cheer team will also be there to cheer on our players. We hope you will join us for an evening of fun. We have four days of school this week and look forward to making each one a great one. Thank you for continued your support or our students, staff and school community.

Good afternoon, Parents/Guardians: Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) will conduct an important Mass Communication Test on Friday, February 9, 2024. This test aims to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of our communication systems, ensuring that we can reach all members of our school community promptly in critical situations. This test will involve each school in our district. For parents and guardians with contact information linked to their child's school records, please anticipate receiving notifications via text messages, voice calls, and emails. This initiative is crucial for confirming that our lines of communication are fully operational and that you are kept informed about your child's safety and school events. If your email or phone number fails during our test, please be advised that your child's school will attempt to contact you through alternative means. This may include sending a letter home with your child or employing another communication method over the following four weeks. We also want to remind you of the importance of keeping your contact information current in our system. You can review and update your child's details anytime through the PowerSchool Parent Portal, or contact your child's school. It is not uncommon for contact information to be incorrect by just a single digit, yet accurate details are crucial for ensuring that we can reach all parents and guardians effectively. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to the well-being of our students and the broader school community. Thank you, Nash County Public Schools Click the following link for more info. https://nashdistrictupdates.edurooms.com/engage/ncps-communication-planning-engagement-department/newsletters/ncps-mass-communication-test-advisory

NCPS TEST
Good Evening Cardinal Parents, This is a 4 day work week for our students as this Friday February 9th is a teacher workday. Next Monday February 12 is a teacher workday as well so there is no school for students on the 9th or the 12th. We are working our way through the third nine weeks and will be closing in on the end of the school year before we know it. Please be sure to stay connected with your child's teacher regarding their progress in class. This summer there will only be a summer school opportunity for 2nd and 3rd grade students so we want to be sure all our students are making the most of their time in class now in order to meet the NCPS promotion standards. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking their next round of NC Checkins assessments next week February 13th-16th. These tests are closely aligned with the EOG tests the students will take at the end of the school year so they are a good measure for us to see how our students are performing. We have a competition between grade levels to see who will win the trophy for the highest scores on the checkins. Our 5th graders hold the trophy after the fall assessments so we look forward to see if they will hold on to the trophy or if 3rd or 4th grade will make it happen this time around. We look forward to a great week at school and thank you for all you do to help us help our students. Good night.

AP Information Night
Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) takes the safety of its students, staff, and community seriously. In light of a social media threat and as a precautionary measure for safety, we are initiating a soft lockdown for all NCPS. Law enforcement has been informed and is currently investigating the situation. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work diligently to maintain a safe environment for everyone at NCPS. Thank you to law enforcement for keeping our schools safe. Please checkout this page for more updates, https://www.ncpschools.net/page/emergency-landing-page . The Rocky Mount Police Department (RMPD) and the Nash County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) are actively investigating this incident. For immediate concerns, questions, or if you have any information please contact Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1411 or Nash County Sheriff’s Office at 252-459-4120. Definition of a Soft Lockdown: A soft lockdown is a proactive response to a potential threat when the credibility of the situation has yet to be determined. Law enforcement is conducting an ongoing investigation, and the safety of our school remains paramount. There will be an increased law enforcement presence both within and around the school to ensure the safety and security of our campus. We remain committed to providing updates as the situation progresses.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, We are excited to announce that NES will be performing Wonka, the play this year in April. Auditions will be open to 3rd-5th grade students and will be this Tuesday at 6:00PM in our gym. Any 3rd-5th grade student who would like to audition should report to the gym at 6:00PM. There will be a team of people at school to assist with auditions and judging for characters. If you have any questions regarding the play please contact Lori Mizelle our music teacher. We will hold our 5th grade awards day program on Wednesday morning at 8:10 in the gym. This is a make up day for their awards as we missed 5th grade on the 17th due to the weather delay. We will be practicing our safety drills this week which will include a lockdown practice drill as well as our monthly fire drill. Friday February 9th and Monday February 12th are teacher workdays so there will be no school for students on those two days. Please be sure to make arrangements for your child on those days. We look forward to a great week at school and thank you for all you do to support our students. Good Night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, We were honored today to have Governor Roy Cooper return home to Nashville Elementary School where he went as a young child. He visited a few classrooms and spoke to our amazing students and saw our impressive robotics team in action. The message he was passing along about public schools was important and there were other speakers with great messages as well including our Superintendent Dr. Ellis, and NCHS Teacher Mrs. Hale. However, the highlight of this event in my opinion was the introduction of our Governor by our 5th grade student Elijah. He got a standing ovation from the crowd of over 160 people in attendance and it was so well deserved. We are proud of all our students, staff and families for the effort and work put in to make education important for our community. Have a great evening.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, Please remember to complete the new model release form. You can complete it electronically using the form in ROOMS or using the paper copy of the form that we sent home. Remember this is an opt in form which means in order for us to be able to take your child's picture you have to opt in on the form. If you do not want your child's picture taken then you should complete the form and indicate that as well. If you do not complete the form at all then your child will not be able to have their picture taken. If you have any questions about this you can contact our front office or your child's teacher. Please continue to encourage your child to put forth great effort to meet the high expectations of our NCPS promotion standards which include attendance, grades and performance on state assessments. Our teachers are finishing up the middle of the year reading assessments with K-3 students and our 3-5 students will be taking their next NC Check ins tests in the coming weeks. Teachers will send specific information for these tests when we begin. We look forward to a great week of learning at school. Good Night

Nash County Public Schools will start on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to ensure the safety of the road conditions. Due to recent weather forecasts and prioritizing the safety of our students, families, and staff, Nash County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17. This decision follows the latest update from the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated, patchy ice on pavements tonight and tomorrow morning. Furthermore, they anticipate sub-freezing temperatures in the morning, potentially dropping as low as 23 degrees, with a wind chill factor of 12 to 15 degrees. Revised Schedule for January 17, 2024: - Traditional High School: 9:30 a.m. - Elementary School: 10:00 a.m. - Middle School: 10:30 a.m. - Tar River Academy and CITI High School: 11:00 a.m. - Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School: 11:30 a.m. Breakfast will be available at schools. Students may be dropped off 40 minutes prior to the start of their school. If you ride the bus - please be on the lookout for transportation updates in the morning. Thank you for your understanding. Inclement Weather Update
Good Evening Cardinal Parents, I hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend and has taken a moment to reflect on the importance of honoring Martin Luther King Jr. today for the work he did to promote change in our world through nonviolence and peace. Let's all strive to be leaders who work together to help impact our community in great ways and to inspire our children to grow and learn each and every day. We will have our second awards day program on Wednesday. You will have received an invitation if your child is receiving an award. These programs run through the day on our specials schedule so if you have questions about the time or if your child is getting an award then please contact their teacher. We will be completing our middle of the year reading assessments in K-3 over the next two weeks. These assessments will help us gauge our student progress thus far and help us pinpoint areas of need moving forward. You will receive a parent connect letter with their progress once finished. We also use this data to provide academic interventions for small group reading instruction. Please stay in close contact with your child's teachers as we work through this third nine weeks. Lastly, please remember to complete the model release form. If you cannot find it in ROOMS please contact the school or your child's teacher and we can get you a hard copy to complete. Thank you for all your support so far this year. Good night
