Good Evening Cardinal Parents, Please remember to complete the new model release form. You can complete it electronically using the form in ROOMS or using the paper copy of the form that we sent home. Remember this is an opt in form which means in order for us to be able to take your child's picture you have to opt in on the form. If you do not want your child's picture taken then you should complete the form and indicate that as well. If you do not complete the form at all then your child will not be able to have their picture taken. If you have any questions about this you can contact our front office or your child's teacher. Please continue to encourage your child to put forth great effort to meet the high expectations of our NCPS promotion standards which include attendance, grades and performance on state assessments. Our teachers are finishing up the middle of the year reading assessments with K-3 students and our 3-5 students will be taking their next NC Check ins tests in the coming weeks. Teachers will send specific information for these tests when we begin. We look forward to a great week of learning at school. Good Night

Nash County Public Schools will start on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to ensure the safety of the road conditions. Due to recent weather forecasts and prioritizing the safety of our students, families, and staff, Nash County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17. This decision follows the latest update from the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated, patchy ice on pavements tonight and tomorrow morning. Furthermore, they anticipate sub-freezing temperatures in the morning, potentially dropping as low as 23 degrees, with a wind chill factor of 12 to 15 degrees. Revised Schedule for January 17, 2024: - Traditional High School: 9:30 a.m. - Elementary School: 10:00 a.m. - Middle School: 10:30 a.m. - Tar River Academy and CITI High School: 11:00 a.m. - Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School: 11:30 a.m. Breakfast will be available at schools. Students may be dropped off 40 minutes prior to the start of their school. If you ride the bus - please be on the lookout for transportation updates in the morning. Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe in this weather. For any inquiries, contact your respective school. Please follow this link for updates: https://www.ncpschools.net/page/emergency-landing-page

Inclement Weather Update
Good Evening Cardinal Parents, I hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend and has taken a moment to reflect on the importance of honoring Martin Luther King Jr. today for the work he did to promote change in our world through nonviolence and peace. Let's all strive to be leaders who work together to help impact our community in great ways and to inspire our children to grow and learn each and every day. We will have our second awards day program on Wednesday. You will have received an invitation if your child is receiving an award. These programs run through the day on our specials schedule so if you have questions about the time or if your child is getting an award then please contact their teacher. We will be completing our middle of the year reading assessments in K-3 over the next two weeks. These assessments will help us gauge our student progress thus far and help us pinpoint areas of need moving forward. You will receive a parent connect letter with their progress once finished. We also use this data to provide academic interventions for small group reading instruction. Please stay in close contact with your child's teachers as we work through this third nine weeks. Lastly, please remember to complete the model release form. If you cannot find it in ROOMS please contact the school or your child's teacher and we can get you a hard copy to complete. Thank you for all your support so far this year. Good night

Good Evening Cardinal Parents and welcome back to NES in the year 2024. We look forward to seeing all our students back at school tomorrow morning. Report cards will be sent home electronically tomorrow evening via your child's email. Please be sure to be on the look out for them. We will also be sending home academic trouble letters. These letters indicate if your child is behind at this point in the year. It does not mean that they will be retained but that we have work to do for them to meet the NCPS promotion standards. In order for your child to have their picture taken in 2024 they must have an updated model release form on file. You can find the form in the ROOMS app under Model Release Form. I am also attaching a link to the form that has to be completed below. This will impact what we can put in our yearbook and all other events we have at our school. If you have a middle or high schooler it has to be done for them as well. If you have any problems with completing the form you can contact the front office and we will try to help you through it. Thank you to those who have already completed the form. https://nashvillees.ncpschools.net/o/nes/forms/nashville-elementary-nashville-elem Please remember to drop off car students in the car line between 7:20-7:59. Students dropped off after that should be checked in through the front office. If you park on E. Virginia St. and walk your child to the building that is fine but we cannot have parents dropping students off at the road. If your child is a car rider and you want them to have breakfast then they really need to be here before 7:50 in order to get breakfast and be in class on time. Bus riders will always have the opportunity to get breakfast as their arrival time is dependent on us. We look forward to a great first week back at school and a wonderful second semester full of learning and growth for all. Good Night

The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. NC Law Senate Bill 49 / SL 2023-106 states that from 01/01/24, to include a child in photos/videos/recordings, parents/guardians must Opt-In. This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district. Find the form in Rooms, under Materials -> "Mandatory" -> "updated model release form".

Model release form instructions
Good Evening Cardinal Parents, We have four days of school left before our break begins. Wednesday and Thursday this week will be early release days so we will dismiss at 1:00 PM on those two days so please make arrangements for dismissal times on Wednesday and Thursday. The second nine weeks grading period ends on Thursday. We thank all those who have helped with the canned food drive run by our ACE club. It will end on Tuesday and we will see which class wins the pizza party. In the end we know those in need within our community including our veterans will be the true winners of this event. Congrats to Lily and Adeline our Spelling Bee winner and runner up from last week. We are proud of all our contestants and look forward to supporting our two winners in the district competition later this year. I hope everyone is staying dry and safe through this weather today and tonight and we look forward to a great last week of 2023 and can't wait to see our students tomorrow morning. Good night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, Thank you to everyone who came out last week for Zaxby's and our K-2 Christmas Concert. Both events were wonderful and your support is very much appreciated. We have two weeks left before we end this second nine weeks and go on break for the holidays. We will have some fun events at school but will be sure to work first and keep all things focused on learning! The ACE club is holding a canned food drive to support A Touch of the Father's Love Ministry who helps local veterans and families who are in need. Each homeroom will collect canned goods and our ACE club will make the donation before we go on break. There will be some information coming out regarding a new model release form that all parents will have to attend to in the new year. The state has changed to an "opt in" form starting January 1st 2024. NCPS will send a digital form through ROOMS for parents to Opt in to have your child's picture taken at school. Please be on the lookout for this and we will keep you informed about it as we move forward. Lastly please continue to get your child to school on time and follow our morning and afternoon procedures so we can ensure the safety of all our students, staff and families during those busy arrival and dismissal times. We look forward to a great week. Good Night.
